Question / required work

What needs finding out?

Find the answer in the supplied sources and connect it to the question.

Why it matters

Understanding a Target requires a traceable connection between an answer and the evidence behind it. This exercise builds that source-reading skill.

What is already known

The reference answer is already in the supplied source material. This is a personal discovery, not an unresolved scientific claim.

What evidence or material is needed

The complete evidence statement and the source you used. The exercise checks wording, ignoring case and spacing; it does not assess paraphrases.

Where the work happens

Online. Use the existing reference extract. No Field visit or new media is required.

Your investigation and progress

An exercise response stays on this device. It is not delivered to a reviewer and does not change shared ecological knowledge.

Discover

Connect possum feeding and behaviour to the ecological consequences that follow.

Read the approved evidence extract and reconstruct its complete statement in your answer. This exercise uses exact wording (ignoring case and spacing); paraphrases are not automatically judged. The discovery is personal and awards no field impact.

DOC — Possums — The threat

Leaves are the main part of the possum diet, but possums are opportunistic omnivores. Eating leaves, buds, flowers, fruit, berries and nectar can disrupt plant growth and life cycles and creates competition with native birds and reptiles; favoured trees such as rata and kamahi can be hit especially hard. Possums also eat native birds and eggs, land snails and invertebrates such as weta, occupy tree holes otherwise available to nesting birds, and can spread bovine tuberculosis.

Observations, material and further questions

Use the existing reference extract. No Field visit or new media is required.

A useful request names the missing information, why it matters and the observation or source that could answer it. Field participants can also request Online identification, research or context. Keep media, attributed observations and evidence distinct.

Field requests and media delivery are not available in this exercise. No observation has been returned through it.

Review, resolution and knowledge returned

Completion records your personal discovery. It does not independently verify a fact, resolve a new ecological question or establish impact.

Review asks whether the response answers the question within its evidence and limitations. A request can be fulfilled while the question remains unresolved. Reviewed observations and evidence can strengthen PE knowledge, help the Field participant or prompt another Mission.

This exercise has no published review or shared-knowledge resolution. Local completion and saved unreviewed responses remain personal progress.
